I found this interesting!

The grim recession is taking its toll on the psyches of people around the globe, regardless of wealth or success. Here are details about recent high-profile suicides, plus some suicide prevention resources:

David Kellerman: The Freddie Mac acting chief financial officer was found hanging in his basement on April 22. It has been speculated that the stress of the failing mortgage giant was the reason. (Search has the details.)

René-Thierry Magon de La Villehuchet: The head of a French investment company — and major investor with Bernie Madoff — took his life at his desk in New York in December. (Search for more details.)

Adolf Merckle: This German industrialist, who in 2007 was ranked Forbes’ 44th richest man, threw himself in front of a train in January. In 2008, he dropped dramatically on the Forbes list. (Search tells us where he appeared on the list.)

Patrick Rocca: The so-called poster boy of Ireland’s Celtic Tiger shot himself in the head in January. In 2007, his fortune topped an estimated $647 million. (Search for more details.)

These times are reminiscent of tales of rich financiers leaping from office windows after the Great Crash of 1929. And that’s just what they were: tales. Contrary to popular belief, suicide rates did not increase during the Great Depression. (Search has the data.)

Today, calls to suicide prevention hotlines have spiked dramatically in some areas. For example, those in Los Angeles and Oregon have seen startling increases. (Search for more details.)

The national suicide rate is hotly debated, but the ailing economy impacts the psyches of a surprising number of Americans, according to a recent survey. (Search for details.)

Unlike during the Great Depression, today there is help. The government has launched a Web site full of information, and there are resources to prevent suicide. (Search for them.)

This is a hot topic today! So I’ve decided to get in where I fit in and add my 2 cents. Nothing new if you know me! lol

ARNOLD, Mo. - Marking his symbolic 100th day in office, President Barack Obama told Midwesterners Wednesday: “I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made but I’m not satisfied.”

“I’m confident in the future but I’m not content with the present,” the president told a town-hall style event in a St. Louis suburb.

….”We have begun to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off, and we’ve begun the work of remaking America,” Obama proclaimed. But he acknowledged, “We’ve got a lot of work to do because on our first day in office, we found challenges of unprecedented size and scope.”

He defended his ambitious, costly plan, saying: “These challenges could not be met with half measures. They couldn’t be met with the same, old formulas. They couldn’t be confronted in isolation. They demanded action that was bold and sustained.”

And, Obama countered critics who said he’s taking on too much, as he works to turn around the recession while revamping energy, education and health care in the United States.

“The changes that we’ve made are the changes we promised,” Obama said. “We’re doing what we said we’d do.”

The president promised to fight for everyday Americans, saying: “My campaign was possible because the American people wanted change. I ran for president because I wanted to carry those voices, your voices, with me to Washington. So I just want everybody to understand you’re who I’m working for every single day in the White House. I’ve heard your stories. I know you sent me to Washington because you believed in the promise of a better day. And I don’t want to let you down.”

In my opinion, we have some ways to go before we can really judge if change is actually happening. It is important to refrain from making the same mistakes, so in time we will come to find out if we are moving in the right direction!

Loving this picture, let’s see if I can find the words to describe why? I can really relate with it, I am guilty of being a bag lady! Carrying the weight of the world, most of it; is dead weight that I won’t let go of. The past is just that! I often preach to my loved ones about letting go of pain, “You’re the only one walking around feeling like this, they are going on with their day as if nothing happened!” Strange how we speak truths everyday but never internalize the jewels.

Today is my last day as an 26 year old woman. Hopefully putting this in writing will force me to come to grips with reality. I vow to shed this dead weight, to move forward…hustle forward! GOD speaks to us in whispers; as I listen I am humbled by love, forgiveness, and the lengths I have come to be where I am. I am now ready to receive my blessing!

JOHANNESBURG - Gangs of South African men are raping lesbians in the belief it will “cure” the women’s sexual orientation, an aid agency said Friday.

NGO ActionAid said in a report titled “Hate Crimes: the rise of corrective rape in South Africa” lesbians were increasingly at risk of rape, particularly in South African townships where homosexuality is largely taboo.

South Africa has one of the world’s most progressive constitutions and became the first country in Africa to allow gay marriage in 2006, but homosexuality is still widely frowned upon and same-sex unions are often decried as “un-African.”

The brutal rape and murder last year of female soccer player Eudy Simelane, a lesbian, threw a spotlight on homophobic violence, particularly toward women.

“We get insults every day, beatings if we walk alone, you are constantly reminded that you deserve to be raped,” ActionAid quoted one lesbian as saying. “They yell, ‘if I rape you then you will go straight, you will buy skirts and start to cook because you will have learnt how to be a real woman’.”

Homophobic attacks
One lesbian and gay support group told ActionAid it was dealing with 10 new cases of lesbians being targeted for what it called “corrective rape” every week in Cape Town alone.

Thirty one lesbians have been reported murdered in homophobic attacks since 1998, but support groups say the actual number is probably much higher because crimes on the basis of sexual orientation are not recognized in the South African criminal justice system, ActionAid said.

Of the 31 cases, only two cases were brought to South African courts and there has been only one conviction. South Africa has one of the world highest rates of rape but activists say very few cases end in conviction, and women’s groups say police and the justice system have failed to tackle the problem.

ActionAid estimates there are 500,000 rapes in South Africa every year.

It said the police were particularly reluctant to investigate crimes against lesbians and said support for survivors was inadequate.

Found the original story and image over at Current, but this article is from MSNBC.

Pissed, isn’t even the word to describe how I felt when reading about this chauvinistic bullshit!  So the logic here is to take the puss, and as a result the desire for a man will be ignited…wow!  Now I personally have never been raped, but I’ve had a man I loved put his hands on me, so I understand the pain and the helplessness that can be felt.  I don’t understand, our men are suppose to protect US…why does it seem that the exact opposite is happening!  With this kind of leadership, we’ll continue to go no where…FAST!

*gotta love this pic!  lol*

With off season workouts scheduled next week at Dove Valley and uncertainty about whether Jay Cutler will show up, the quarterback on Thursday put his multi-million dollar house in Parker up for sale.

Cutler’s 7,516-square-foot house on nearly 1-1/2 acres is advertised for sale at $2 million, according to a real estate listing. Cutler bought the house in 2006 for $1.34 million.

On Monday, Cutler came away from a conference call with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels believing he might be traded between now and the NFL draft on April 25, an NFL source told The Denver Post.

The Broncos had a different impression of the call, thinking it was a positive talk, a source close to the team said. McDaniels was joined on the conference call by Broncos general manager Brian Xanders, owner Pat Bowlen and chief operating officer Joe Ellis in Colorado. Cutler, in Nashville, was joined by his agent, Bus Cook.

Cutler has been upset the Broncos attempted to trade him in a three-team deal for then-New England quarterback Matt Cassell, who was traded to Kansas City on Feb. 28.

Cutler also owns a penthouse condo in lower downtown Denver.

Fuller Sotheby’s International Reality is the listing office for the sale of Cutler’s house.

I will admit, I haven’t been Ms. ESPN lately but when your Quarterback is pissy, word gets around! I’m going to be optimistic on this one and dismiss it as bullshit….

*dusts off cobweb’s*

Hmm, looks rather boring around here.

Going from several posts a day to nothing at all has definitely been….uh, strange! lol - couldn’t find a better word to describe it. I spent months blogging about national news, odd news, a lil gossip and of course shared my nostalgic side with all the videos here on the site. I truly love blogging and it’s a shame I had to take such a long hiatus from it…but in all, I have regrouped, relocated, and rejected all the bullshit of my former life. It is time to HUSTLE FORWARD! The videos I choose for today’s post are personal…it’s been a journey but I’ve made it!

For those that give a damn and even for those that wish me strife, I thank you…the energy from both sides has pushed me into a corner and I’m proud to report that I came out swinging! I’ve made my way back into school, my son has a loving and nourishing home and I got a lil money in the back. If you coulda seen me a few months ago…shawty was damn mess! But we live and LEARN, my mistakes and mishaps will only make me the woman I am suppose to be. I won’t make any promises though, my life has become hectic (good news btw) and now that I’ve paid my DreamHost bill (LMAO) my plans are to check in from time to time and get back to what I love and what loved me back!

Praise the LORD, I am finally FREE 2 BEE!

NEW YORK - Eartha Kitt, a sultry singer, dancer and actress who rose from South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality, has died, a family spokesman said. She was 81.

Andrew Freedman said Kitt, who was recently treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, died Thursday in Connecticut of colon cancer.

Kitt, a self-proclaimed “sex kitten” famous for her catlike purr, was one of America’s most versatile performers, winning two Emmys and nabbing a third nomination. She also was nominated for several Tonys and two Grammys.

Her career spanned six decades, from her start as a dancer with the famed Katherine Dunham troupe to cabarets and acting and singing on stage, in movies and on television. She persevered through an unhappy childhood as a mixed-race daughter of the South and made headlines in the 1960s for denouncing the Vietnam War during a visit to the White House.

‘Most exciting woman in world’
Through the years, Kitt remained a picture of vitality and attracted fans less than half her age even as she neared 80.

When her book “Rejuvenate,” a guide to staying physically fit, was published in 2001, Kitt was featured on the cover in a long, curve-hugging black dress with a figure that some 20-year-old women would envy. Kitt also wrote three autobiographies.

Once dubbed the “most exciting woman in the world” by Orson Welles, she spent much of her life single, though brief romances with the rich and famous peppered her younger years.

After becoming a hit singing “Monotonous” in the Broadway revue “New Faces of 1952,” Kitt appeared in “Mrs. Patterson” in 1954-55. (Some references say she earned a Tony nomination for “Mrs. Patterson,” but only winners were publicly announced at that time.) She also made appearances in “Shinbone Alley” and “The Owl and the Pussycat.”

Her first album, “RCA Victor Presents Eartha Kitt,” came out in 1954, featuring such songs as “I Want to Be Evil,” “C’est Si Bon” and the saucy gold digger’s theme song “Santa Baby,” which is revived on radio each Christmas.

The next year, the record company released follow-up album “That Bad Eartha,” which featured “Let’s Do It,” “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” and “My Heart Belongs to Daddy.”

In 1996, she was nominated for a Grammy in the category of traditional pop vocal performance for her album “Back in Business.” She also had been nominated in the children’s recording category for the 1969 record “Folk Tales of the Tribes of Africa.”

Acted on screens small and large
Kitt also acted in movies, playing the lead female role opposite Nat King Cole in “St. Louis Blues” in 1958 and more recently appearing in “Boomerang” and “Harriet the Spy” in the 1990s.

On television, she was the sexy Catwoman on the popular “Batman” series in 1967-68, replacing Julie Newmar who originated the role. A guest appearance on an episode of “I Spy” brought Kitt an Emmy nomination in 1966.

“Generally the whole entertainment business now is bland,” she said in a 1996 Associated Press interview. “It depends so much on gadgetry and flash now. You don’t have to have talent to be in the business today.

“I think we had to have something to offer, if you wanted to be recognized as worth paying for.”

Anti-war comments
Kitt was plainspoken about causes she believed in. Her anti-war comments at the White House came as she attended a White House luncheon hosted by Lady Bird Johnson.

“You send the best of this country off to be shot and maimed,” she told the group of about 50 women. “They rebel in the street. They don’t want to go to school because they’re going to be snatched off from their mothers to be shot in Vietnam.”

For four years afterward, Kitt performed almost exclusively overseas. She was investigated by the FBI and CIA, which allegedly found her to be foul-mouthed and promiscuous.
